Big changes are on the horizon for international students in Canada! Here are the key updates:
🚨 Study Permit Caps Expanded: Starting in 2025–2026, master's and doctoral students will also be subject to the international student permit cap. Around 12% of spaces will be reserved for these students, recognizing their vital contributions to Canada’s labour market.
📜 New Language Requirements: All Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) applicants will now need to prove their proficiency in either English or French. This move is aimed at boosting their chances of permanent residency and helping them better integrate into Canada's economy.
🎯 PGWP Program Alignment: The PGWP program will be updated to reflect immigration goals and labour market needs, ensuring that international graduates are better equipped for the future.
👥 Work Permit Eligibility Changes:
Spouses of master’s degree students will only be eligible for work permits if their program lasts at least 16 months.
Spouses of foreign workers will be eligible only if employed in managerial, professional roles, or in sectors facing labour shortages under Canada's TFWP and IMP programs.
These changes mark a significant shift in Canada’s international education and immigration landscape. 🌍📚
