Study in New Zealand

In New Zealand, the education system stands apart with its unique structure, including the prevalent system of obtaining an Honours degree. Despite its similarities to international education systems, there are distinct differences worth exploring. Here, we elucidate the functioning of the education system in New Zealand.

A bachelor's degree typically takes three years, with an additional year for an Honours degree. Variations include four-year degrees without Honours and specialized degrees with longer durations. Honours degrees are classified into first, upper second, lower second, or third class.

A Master's degree usually follows a bachelor's degree. Candidates without an Honours bachelor's may pursue a two-year Master's, while those with Honours often complete a one-year program. Honours at either level is typically needed for doctoral program admission.

Financial Considerations

While education is heavily subsidized for New Zealand nationals, international students are subject to full, non-subsidized fees. Living expenses and tuition costs are comparatively affordable, with international students permitted to work part-time during their studies. The Australian Government suggests an annual budget of AUD$19,830 for living expenses, factoring in accommodation, recreational activities, emergencies, and healthcare expenses not covered by Overseas Student Health Cover.

Admission Requirements

Admission criteria vary by program and level, typically necessitating a minimum English language proficiency and academic record. Indian students typically require a minimum academic score of 65% in Class XII, with foundation and diploma programs available for those with lower scores. Additionally, applicants must provide various documents, including academic transcripts, reference letters, a statement of purpose, resume, standardized test scores (e.g., GMAT, IELTS, TOEFL), portfolio (for certain programs), proof of funds, and any relevant certifications or achievements.

These requirements may vary across universities, emphasizing the importance of thorough research and adherence to individual institution guidelines.
